here.

so i've finally moved and settled into a place. it's tiny, but it's a place. i'd say it's about 150 square feet. so yes, it's smaller than jason jung's place. by a lot. i'll upload some pictures later on once i get some internet set up here... for now, you'll just have to trust me when i say if i roll over twice i'm touching another wall in my apt. anyway, since i'm a lil bit outside of seoul, it's a bit difficult finding an american to asian electrical converter... and i left my freakin charging cord for my shaver in the hotel room in seoul. so my two major purchases so far have been a set of cordless clippers and a cordless phillips electric shaver. aside from that, all my money has been goin on food and spending $1/hr at an internet cafe.

food here is ridiculously cheap. like 4 bucks gets you a solid meal at most places. if you go to mickey d's during lunch, you can get yourself a big mac meal for about 3 bucks. if you really go all out and have yourself a feast, you would seldom spend more than 15 bucks, but more likely to spend around the 8 dollar mark. and you're pretty full. what's even cheaper is getting drunk. bottles of soju are about 2.50 each, whereas a 22oz bottle of korean beer is about 4 bucks. you do the math.

that said, i'm realizing that you really don't have to make much at all in order to live well here. i did a little research and the median household income here is a little over 30k a year. not much right? seems like you'd barely make it. this is true if you made 30k in the states. but here, 30k is a pretty decent living. weigh in the fact that you only pay between 3% to 10% for your federal taxes here, and you're essentially taking every penny home, whereas, in the states you'd have to make 50k to take 30k home... and even then, the cost of living is so much higher that you don't have much money left for anything.

anyway, i'm starting to see the light about living overseas. you make a really decent living here and your expenses are very little. and how could you complain about working less than 30 hours a week and still taking home over 3k a month? idonthatemylifethatmuchanymore.

how are things back home? i get an occasional invite for a bbq.. but haven't heard much from the homies back home... if you're free shoot me an email. i'd love to hear from you guys...

Awww yay you met up with Jason! Tell him I miss him bunches of oats! And you too of course =)

If you really wanna put things into perspective, the average person makes about $100/month in Vietnam.

...and in the country, that's enough to support an entire family of 5.
